Royal Bafokeng Platinum CELEBRATING YOU Royal Bafokeng Platinum CELEBRATING YOU Celebrating 10 years of More than Mining In celebration of our 10-year anniversary of being listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), we pay tribute to the many people who have paved the way for us, while also looking forward to continuing our legacy of success. As I reflect on the past 10 years and the incredible progress we have made, I cannot help but be excited about the future. I am also proud to work with the many men and women in our employ, who espouse the Royal Bafokeng Platinum (RBPlat) values and our strong business principles. I offer my personal thanks and appreciation to each of you for being part of the RBPlat journey, and for making More than Mining possible. Steve Phiri Chief Executive Officer From the CEO 2 3

Royal Bafokeng Platinum CELEBRATING YOU Royal Bafokeng Platinum CELEBRATING YOU A legacy of shared value and lasting success It is a story of the Bafokeng people, who have been living in the valley between the Pilanesberg Mountains and the town of Rustenburg for more than 800 years. Known as ‘People of the Dew’, these strong men and women have continuously overcome great challenges to claim their rightful ownership of the land. In the 1800s, the then Bafokeng King, Kgosi August Mokgatle, came up with a plan to buy back the Bafokeng land that was taken by colonialists. To do this, the Bafokeng people sent many of their men over 400km away to work at the newly discovered Kimberley diamond fields, and used their hard-earned wages to buy the deeds to the land, which the Bafokeng still occupy to this day. It is also the land where the world’s largest platinum deposits were later discovered in 1924. After many years of legal battles, they won the rights to these minerals. Following this, the Bafokeng decided to corporatise in order to manage their mining interests separate from the administration. Our story The history of RBPlat truly is a story of More than Mining. One that dates back long before our listing on the JSE on 8 November 2010. This corporatisation gave rise to the listing of RBPlat on the JSE on 8 November 2010. 4 5

Royal Bafokeng Platinum CELEBRATING YOU Royal Bafokeng Platinum CELEBRATING YOU Community-owned company to be listed on the JSE In 2002, Anglo American Platinum Ltd (Amplats) formed a 50/50 joint venture with the Bafokeng through its subsidiary, Rustenburg Platinum Mines Ltd (RPM). This joint venture, formed through Royal Bafokeng Resources (Pty) Ltd (RBR), became known as the Bafokeng Rasimone Platinum Mine Joint Venture (BRPM JV). In 2009, the BRPM JV was restructured, paving the way for RBPlat and giving it control of 67% of the joint venture. On 8 November 2010, RBPlat became the first community-owned business to be listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). In December 2018, RBPlat acquired Amplats’ 33% interest in the joint venture for R1.863 billion, becoming sole owner of the assets. To this day, RBPlat strives to be a South African mining company that produces platinum group metals (PGMs) to outperform the market and create shared value for all. Until November 2021, Royal Bafokeng Holdings (RBH) was the major shareholder and owned 36% of RBPlat.
