Bafokeng Rasimone Platinum Mine (BRPM)

BAFOKENG RASIMONE PLATINUM MINE (BRPM) IS AN UNDERGROUND MINE OPERATING AT A DEPTH OF LESS THAN 500m.

It is accessed by two decline shafts the North and South shafts (as well as a smaller, now defunct South-D shaft, in the south of the property).

BRPM produced its first concentrate from the Boschkoppie property in 1999 and is producing at steady state approximately 200,000 tonnes of milled ore per month, yielding approximately 180,000 platinum ounces in concentrate per annum.

NORTH SHAFT PHASE III REPLACEMENT PROJECT

This project involves the extension of the North shaft Merensky decline system and associated infrastructure from 10 level down to the mining boundary at 15 level. The new Merensky production levels from 11 to 15 level will give access to 1.4 million Merensky ounces (4E), using a hybrid mining method.

The project at year-end was 96% complete with only engineering related construction work on 14 and 15 level remaining. Project progress remains aligned with production requirements.

MINING METHOD

Conventional stoping methods. The Phase III area will be mined using hybrid mining.

UTILITIES AND ACCESS

Power and water supplies have been secured for the life of mine from Eskom and Magalies Water. There is good access to BRPM via modern roads and the infrastructure necessary to conduct mining is in place.
