Concentrating Facilities

RBPLAT HAS TWO CONCENTRATING FACILITIES, THE BAFOKENG RASIMONE PLATINUM MINE (BRPM) CONCENTRATOR WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE BRPM MINE AND THE MASEVE PLANT

The BRPM concentrator, was designed to receive Merensky ore from BRPM’s two decline shafts and is able to treat 10% of UG2. The original design capacity of 200 000 tonnes a month, has been upgraded to 250 000 tonnes a month to accommodate production from Styldrift I.

The concentrator can be described as a robust maintenance intensive environment which produces 2.7 tonnes of saleable product from every 100 tonnes of ore processed

The plant operates on a 24 hours, 365 days a year basis and follows a traditional Mill-Float, Mill-Float (MF2) process which includes a conventional three stage crushing process prior to milling and flotation. The flotation processes produce a platinum rich PGM concentrate which is collected and sold as a final product by BRPM for further processing and refining. RBPlat has an offtake agreement with Rustenburg Refineries (owned by Anglo American Platinum) for the sale of the BRPM JV concentrate.

Maseve concentrator

RBPlat’s offer for the Maseve concentrator plant, which is north west of BRPM’s South shaft and to the south of Styldrift I, was successfully closed on the 14 February 2018 following Competition Tribunal approval and all conditions precedent being fulfilled or waived. The plant, which is a MF1 configuration, has a capacity of 110 000 tonnes a month with the potential to be upgraded to 160 000 tonnes a month to improve recoveries. In April 2018, the DMR gave the final approval to transfer mineral rights to RBPlat.

The acquisition of the Maseve plant places RBPlat in a position to:

  • Accelerate production at Styldrift I to 230 000 tonnes a month
  • Extend the life of BRPM’s South shaft Merensky by 18 to 24 months
  • Access our Frischgewaagd ore body early
