Bafokeng Rasimone Platinum Mine Joint Venture (BRPM JV) comprises the Boschkoppie and Styldrift mining right areas, along with a portion of the Frischgewaagd prospecting right area. Royal Bafokeng Platinum operates BRPM and is in the process of bringing the Styldrift 1 Project into production.
The BRPM is located on the Western Limb of the Bushveld Complex, approximately 30km northwest of the Rustenburg town in the North West Province of South Africa. The BRPM complex is situated on the only major, shallow platinum group metals (PGMs) reserves still available for mining in South Africa.
The Bushveld Complex is estimated to have been formed approximately 2,000 million years ago and is the world’s largest known ultramafic igneous layered intrusion containing approximately 90% of the world’s known platinum group metals (PGMs). Discover the Bushveld Complex
Platinum and other Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) are used in a number of industrial processes and commercial applications – in flat panel monitors, glass fibre, medical tools, computer hard drives, nylon and razors, among others. Learn about PGMs
The establishment of a PGM mine – from the discovery of a deposit to commissioning and operating – can take a number of years. Follow the key stages of PGM Mining
The Bushveld Complex covers an area of over 65,000 square km, spanning parts of the Limpopo, North West, Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa.
